Well, Kawi quit AMA roadracing today.
I'm thinking AMA Roadracing will disappear within 2 years.
This really sucks.

Something will pop up to replace it. There's WERA, for one, who have the expertise and national connections to put something together. Don't give up yet! I think we could have an excellent series, if we follow the Brit/Euro model (SBK rules), and send DMG to the scrap heap.

A very good one, but I don't think they could sustain a national level series. That's just my opinion, of course. When I was racing WERA, it was WAY different than it is today. We used to race on some horseshit tracks (Indianapolis Raceway Park, for instance) and it was very much like a family. I think it will have to be a new organization. Maybe the AMA will finally let the FIM run it? Who knows? I just hope we rise back up to a great national level series.

I think it's just a cost thing. Mounting a racing team is no cheap deal. And when sales are down, it's tough to justify. I heard Kawi was going to let it go months ago.

As much as I like road racing, I expect it to slowly wither away, just as flattracking has slowly eroded from national prominence. Motard racing is far cheaper, the bikes are becoming more popular, and I expect it will eventually take road racing's place. It's far easier to understand if you are a casual spectator. The bikes are not as fast, and you can't stage a motard race in a far smaller venue. The rules are even more logical for the time being. It all adds up to a much more likely commercial product.
It's a whole lot of fun to participate in as well. It's one more thing to have fun being lousy at.

It would be pretty cool to see local parks spring up like the ones in eastern Europe - banked concrete jumps, concrete whoops sections, plus dirt, and in a far smaller space. That sort of thing makes for great racing.

It's a matter of waivers, I would think. You ride here, you sign this waiver that if you fuck youself up you can't sue the track owner.

People are bitching about ATVs and the like due to noise and trespass issues, and while a track would eliminate the trespass, it would not do anything for the noise. This is not to say we don't have them, we do, but new ones are extremely difficult to come by.

Dig it. Yeah, noise is a problem. But... while it hurts performance, you just need to run stock exhausts. Noise would no longer be an issue.

Well, I wouldn't sound the death knell for roadracing yet. MotoGP is becoming more popular here and WSBK is becoming more popular around the world.
I think it's just shitty promoting of a series, like's it always has been.
As far as SuperMotard, I agree it's a load of fun, but it's been the next thing for about 15 years now.

Locally, the road course is a paving mess, but there's a brand new and perfectly paved motard/cart track on the same property. It was completed last year and opened just in time for a friend to crash hard, break his thumb, and get videotaped doing it by his wife. Just so everyone knows, the most sure fire way to guarantee yourself a big, ugly crash is to have your wife videotaping you.

You can't sign a waiver relieving someone of their obligations regarding negligence, which is exactly what would be argued the 1st time some moron wads himself up on a concrete berm.
