"The FBI agent said Internet research showed that Burton had blogged in August 2009 about being a Marine and receiving many commendations and awards. His postings also discussed engaging in combat and serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, the documents said. He said he'd served in Falluja, a city in Iraq's largely Sunni Arab Anbar province where Marines and militants battled for years."
Man he really went over the top with the decorations! FABULOUS !!!!

Good friend of mine had this to say about the dude, (Thanks Lyle!) and I think it's spot on.
Here's what confuses me: why do asshats always go for everything?
No fake guy ever just wears a Silver Star, or a Bronze Star.
I knew many, many infantrymen who had served two or three tours in Vietnam, and came out with like three medals for valor-- two bronze and a silver. And they were hardcore dudes, tough guys of the first magnitude, heavily hung grunts who laid it down and followed it up, then spent four months in the hospital recovering.
But all the fake guys wear ROW ON ROW ON ROW of them! They didn't just win the Navy Cross or the DSC. No.
They won the DSC, the Navy Cross, fourteen silvers and eighteen bronze. Six Air medals. Seventeen campaigns, dating back to Anzio. Cross awards from the Navy, for the sinking of the Bismark, the Air Force, from back before it was the Air Force, and a special, top secret, retroactive award from the Marines for Belleau Wood. I saw a picture of a guy in fatigues, who was wearing every badge you can get-- CIB, CMB, Jump wings, airassault, ALL that happy shit. In spite of the fact that some of them are mutually exclusive...
I can't help but think that if you were going to go for (someone else's) glory, why not go for something that will fly?
Like one silver and a good conduct medal. Something that people won't question.
Besides, that way, you don't have to invent a story about how your Medal of Honor was downgraded to a DSC.
But what the fuck do I know?

Its the same thing as people who say they were reincarnated. They're always a king, never a slave. They pick these self-aggrandizing fantasies because they have low self esteem. Usually, the self-image is well deserved, I've found.

Usually, the self-image is well deserved, I've found. What I don't get is that a lot of ex-service people (at least the ones who say they have been in the military in these forums) think someone who has NOT served in the military is someone less of a person. Or at least his opinions don't hold the same weight. Yet, my observation here has been that these people (like Dakota) have toasted brains themselves.

You think he really served for 20 years? As a special inspector at Gitmo?

Good one, my NDSM was awarded simply for being in during sandbox #1, even though I missed the fun.
Didn't miss the clean up though!

We were getting all the FNGs coming in with their one little orange and yellow ribbon on their dress uniforms. I think they were a little embarrassed about it. I always made sure to take my time mounting up my four rows of salad.
