I always wondered why all those used car dealers on South Tacoma Way managed to stay in business...now I know! lol

It's a fact that the RWNJ's always vote, but many of the moderates and left-leaning types often don't. It's a real problem.

It's a fact that the RWNJ's always vote, but many of the moderates and left-leaning types often don't. It's a real problem. People who don't vote and then complain annoy the hell out of me. They always use the excuse "it's just the lesser of two evils." However, if they'd actually do some damn research and pay attention they'd discover that that is not always true. The problem is people get bored with procedure and that's basically what government is. For example: The GOP is hammering President Obama on jobs and the economy yet look at all the job bills they have either blocked or refuse to even vote on. That's all procedural stuff that people don't focus on, they just focus on the end result.

I have a buddy who's issue is corporate control of the government. For him, there is no real choice as both President Kickass and Money Boo Boo are complete corporate whores. If you have other issues (furrin pollicy, womens health issues, etc...) then there is clear differentiation.
I can see the "lesser of two evils" argument on some issues, but not all of them.

You have *two* friends who are in that camp, Jerome. As in "me, too". The primary issue for everyone should be the growing disparity in income distribution (which is megacorp driven worldwide) because continued growth in disparity _there_ leads to a wide variety of both social and economic problems within every nation so affected (and that includes, unfortunately, virtually every single country in the world.). And the only difference between major (read 'electable') parties here--or elsewhere-- is in _pace_ not direction.
So really the only issues affected by party choice are those the corps could care less about. And *that* list is also shrinking...

Another way you should look at an election is vote based on the current make up of the Supreme Court. If you look at that it should be a no brainer.

Anyway, I remember clearly prior to the 2008 election your admonishment that Candidate Obama was just another corporate shill. I disagreed with you then, but have since had to concede to your foresight on the matter. The oligarchs have won the war. It is for us to deal with the fallout.

The differentiator isn't so much "Will we insert ourselves into foreign governments for the benefit of the priveledged American few?" Because yes, we will, so long as there is a dollar to be made over there. The differentiator is in the manner in which we do it. I doubt very much we will see full scale invasions ala Bush any more, and the Obama policy of "drones and SEALs" will be much more popular, even in a Romney administration. The secrecy of it is much more appealing to those that don't want you to know WTF we're up to. It's pretty hard to hide it when the 101st Airborne goes mobile.

Sweet Irish Thing has taken an interest in the debates and the US political process so she's watching them. She can't believe that it is as institutionally corrupt as it is. "How can they do that and not be in jail?"
I'm taking the kids to swim lessons.

I made a lot of noise last night. Here's a synopsis. Romney lied and spouted discredited talking points. Obama avoided the issues. Did I miss anything? I didn't see much of the show, but does anybody have to see it to know what happened?
As JJ points out, voting based on the Supreme Court is the only way to go. Breyer and Ginsberg are the two most likely to be gone in the next four years. With Romney, we would end up with two more Scalia rubber stamps. Then we would have the most ideologically reactionary court in history.

Then we would have the most ideologically reactionary court in history. Except, perhaps, for the courts of the Reign of Terror under Robespierre, eh?
