I know it's a big tech market but what's the market like for other areas (sales, marketing, project management, banking). It pretty much sucks here (PA) and I'm ready for a move.

lotta seasonal hiring going on (like every year). "Realtor.com listed their top 10 “Turnaround Towns” for the 3rd quarter of 2012, and the Seattle real estate market was listed as the fifth-best market. West coast cities dominated the list, with eight of the top ten cities in California and Washington." And: "Snohomish County's unemployment rate fell for the second consecutive month, dropping to 7.6 percent in September. That's down from 8.3 percent in August, according to a report released Tuesday by the state Employment Security Department. The unemployment rate for the state of Washington was 7.7 percent in September, down from 8.5 percent in August. King County's jobless rate was at 6.9 percent in September." (Snohomish borders King co. to the north (city of Everett). King co is where Seattle is located. Down in Tacoma where i am it is slower and the rate just got down to the mid 8's from the 9's earlier this year. My friends in construction tell me anyone who wants to work (and is worth hiring!) can find a job. I personally question that but there is no argument that things seem to be improving albeit very slowly across the whole puget sound region. per sector/county rates for employment change see: fortress.wa.gov/esd/employmentdata/reports-publications/regional-reports/labor-area-summaries

Anecdotaly it seems like PM and marketing jobs can very definitely be had here. I know several folks in those fields and they are doing VERY well. There are a number of marketing firms here, matter of fact the drummer from my former band works for one of them and works on several projects with Microsoft. If you're really ready for a change there are definitely worse places you could look. Let me know exactly what you're looking for and I can try to reach out to some folks and see what they think.

There is a lot of PM and associated type jobs opening up. The tech sector here is huge, but the engine that drives the economy is still Boeing. So even if you're not a tech head living off the crumbs from Microsoft's table, you can make a pretty good living off of the crumbs from the Machinist Union's table.
The economic downturn had an impact here, but compared to other areas of the country, we came out relatively OK.

The construction market is definitely heating up here, finally. If you can run work for a mixed-use project, whether as a GC or a sub, you can find work. As a PM, you can already use various scheduling programs and are used to budgets and estimates, so it's not much of a step. Coming from you previous background, you might be a pretty good fit.
I used to get the regular emails and calls from headhunters who got my name from somewhere or another. That dried up completely about five years ago. Over the past few months, it started up again. Somebody is hiring.

It appears that the PNW is going to be a hard sell to my wife but it's worth a shot.

You should have brought her out during the summer, now is probably not the time.

I disagree. If you're thinking of moving out here, right now is exactly the time. Bring her out in August and she will get the wrong impression and be pissed at you come October. Bring her out in October, and come August you're a freaking genius.

Yeah, but if she's already on the fence a bait and switch is more likely to get approval.

Wife gave the thumbs up to Seattle. I knew Grey's Anatomy was good for something.

Woohoo!
Another one in the fold.
Obligatory: It rains all the time here. You'll hate it. Try California.
