Wal-Mart is worse IMO! I mean the CEO makes $18 million a year and they claim they cannot give employees health benefits.

Walmart "can't" (read: refuse to) even pay their employees enough to keep them from needing Welfare and Food Stamps! On top of which they won't even hire them full time, which might require provision of those health insurance benefits. And yet, they are the nation's single largest private sector employer. McDonald's being franchise based, I wonder how much of the effort to keep employees to part time hours and lowest possible wages comes from Corporate, and how much is franchisees trying to suck out as much as possible.

to me it really doesn't matter who as much as what the dominant economic *system* encourages those "whos" to do.
I am not even certain it is exclusively a system problem actually...there was a time a few decades ago, when business people knew and gave a living wage to their employees...and didn't tend so much to feather their own nests (with solid gold feahers and twigs!) There are a few higher profile remnants of this mindset still around--Costco's CEO comes to mind.
So perhaps what has _really_ changed is the cultural expectations upon those with the power to mitigate these trends. Greed, somehow, has become "ok" and even expected, without apology. I am not sure why this amoral trend has developed as it has.....??

It's the logical conclusion of the "If you're poor it's because you're lazy" meme the GOP has been pushing since the late 70's.

Along with the "Unions killed the economy" meme.

If you weren't so lazy you wouldn't need a union to protect you.

Okay, you win. McDonalds is some greedy bastards. Story just came out that McDonalds will be open during Christmas this year to help with a year end sales push. Here is the kicker. The employees that work that day will not be receiving any extra pay.

Shouldn't be a surprise. They don't like to offer full-time hours, so they don't have to provide health insurance. Why would they offer holiday pay? Stingy fux...

Well duh! You have to be full time if you're going to get overtime, and since these folks are all part time, they're simply not entitled to it.
Why is everyone so upset about this? These job creators should be thanked for providing these peasants an opportunity to put a few more shillings in their pockets.
