I think that the members will take care of the asshole in question. I have been put in my place before (not for calling a woman a c***), but Blurr was rightfully taken to task for his comments.
You have to take the good with the bad, if you truly want free speech.
Not a policy, a belief.

Should the community provide the punishment, or the moderator(s)? At SBN, they were not one and the same, but they are here. It should be up to the community to provide, ahem, guidance. Ignore the poster, provide your opinion on the matter, and move on. If you were to observe the same interchange in a public setting, what would your reaction be?

Having a public vote as to whether or not a specific member should be simply shunned. He gets to post, but no one responds to his posts? LOL. That would be funnier than hell.

John, I here what you're saying. But there are limits to free speech. We all know the argument. I understand, I just think it's something we'll have to agree to disagree on. Feel free to voice your opinion, but the reporting issue with SBN was a different thing. In there, you do have mods who take power seriously. Enjoy their middle management status. I think if you have a place where (mostly) free speech is tolerated, then you know what you are getting into for the most part. I also have a strong belief that 70% of Americans are just plain dumb and I pity them, rather than let them upset me. I know what you are getting at and respect your opinion, I just have a different one

Now that would be interesting. Having a public vote as to whether or not a specific member should be simply shunned. He gets to post, but no one responds to his posts? LOL. That would be funnier than hell. Well, let's walk through this. If you were involved in a discussion in public (hell, even in private) with a group of semi-known people, and one participant said something really uncalled for ('cunt punt' or whatever), what would you do? Call the cops? File a lawsuit? Shave their dog? Tell them to stop bogarting the discussion and grow up? If they don't stop, then what? From what I have seen, most people like that get ignored while the discussions continue on around them. They lose the privilege of participation through voluntary shunning (good way of expressing it) by the rest of the group. It is then up to the offender to modify their behavior, if they truly wish to participate. Online forums remove some of that action, however, because it does not occur face-to-face, reducing the likelihood of self-shame.

Did everyone get an invite over here? I mean the smart conservatives who made that place interesting (more so than STN). Arozanski is here and Scratch (a moderate I think) but what about Ty and Tripped1 for example?

Exalt and Smite are pretty great options. Only thing is if there really is a hot vampire chick, is it better to be exalted or smitten?
