There is really no excuse for that. It's like the run off at Moroso that used to launch you right into the gator swamp. I think they started running the other way just to fix that.

OH MY GOD, WE AGREE!!!! Now if I can get you turned around on that whole "starter bike/ engine size" thing, we may be on to something

Well, going the other direction at PR would be very significantly worse, believe it or not.

I am a get training and start small guy.
Jim, I think and I should let him answer, is not a "must start on a small bike" guy and obviously is heavily into training.

Do you make a distinct between smaller sport bikes and larger cruisers? For example, would a 750 cc cruiser be as bad as a 750 cc sportbike?

I think cruisers bring other problems to the table. Torque, handling, balance, wheelbase, weight, braking performance and other things endemic to cruisers. A 750CC cruiser may not be anywhere near as powerful as a even a 500cc Sportbike, but I am not a fan of them as beginner bikes. I am a fan of standard type bikes as learners, personally.

I learned on an Intruder (700cc), and it wasn't bad - however, I will say that the steering was rather 'heavy' compared to a standard. I guess it depends on where you see your motorcycling future taking you - track training is probably not enhanced by riding a cruiser ;D

I just think you shouldn't throw in variables that can detract from basic skill absorption

I just think you shouldn't throw in variables that can detract from basic skill absorption There is an interesting point in there - if you will be on cruiser primarily, would not a cruiser (of some type - I even consider the Rebel 250 to be a baby cruiser) make a good starting point? Sportbikes - start with a 250 Ninja. Dual sport - maybe a 125/250 sized bike, although here I can see the seat height potentially creating a problem. Just a motorcycle - then you go with a standard. Personally, if I was starting over, a standard would have been better, from the point of the more 'balanced' steering, but other than that, the cruiser was fine.

I'm cool with a Rebel 250, a GZ250 or a Savage. That being said, a standard gives you things you need if riding either a cruiser or a sportbike, without the compromises of either.
