Holy crap! Wiring! What a rat's nest. It was more or less marked out by whoever took it apart, and the way it was done makes me pretty sure that person has some real issues. There were oddball jumpers to places there shouldn't be oddball jumpers, the hot leads were all grounded. The grounds were all grounded. Except were there were wires cut to random, very short lengths. Leo Fender wouldn't have been amused, even if it's a Squier.

I'm actually setting up a little luthier station in the Love Bunker, and I'm pretty good with a soldering iron. I'm setting up the thing to put Frankencaster together, although I may have to change his name.
New body AND a new neck. There may not be any OEM equipment left on the thing. I'm putting seymore duncan pups on it, so the old ones are available if you want them.

Oooh! Zombiecaster with Frankenbits! It would sound great, and be less filling!
Plus, I now have the Road Not Worn But Still Ugly as Hell market cornered. RNWBSUaH. I has a ring to it.

Zombiecaster is now wired with the exception of a piece of shielded cable for the output jack ground. A little later this morning, it should be as functional as it is going to get without actually buying anything except a bit of shrink tubing and a lighter to shrink the shrink tubing to go along with the shielded cable. Oh, and strings. It will probably sound better with some strings, so those are on the list along the piece of shielded cable.

It didn't need a shielded ground, according to people who should know. They were right, as far as getting it to work. It works! It makes a whole lot of hiss, so I know why it was fouled up like it was. The pots and switch are clearly very dirty and have random dead spots. More than 15 years in a baggie didn't do 'em any good, but they seem to be OK if they get some use to get the dirt out of them. It has a sweet, chimey sound in spite of the noise problems. SWMBO isn't exactly thrilled about it, since I need a spare guitar like I need another hole somewhere or another, but I'm pretty happy about undoing the mess, rewiring it and getting it to work, and finding out it sounds pretty good. It needs a bit of setup to be a decent player. Some fret work and paint work on the body would make it a pretty nice guitar for somebody who likes a very small neck profile.

Heh.... be cool to hear it through that little Gibson amp. It is back, and the Zombiecaster through the Gibson tombstone is perfect! Far less noise than through the big 165.

BTW, I'll vouch for The Tombstone, the little Gibson amp. In addition to looking about as cool as an amp can look, it sounds great too.
