Spain is now being toasted by the bond market, in spite of the half hearted support of the EU. I'm beginning to wonder whether Angela Merkel is serious about holding the euro together or whether she's an accidental secret double agent like George Bush was for Iranian interests. Maybe she's doing it on purpose because she just doesn't like southern Europe and wants them out of the currency. Whatever the reason, she seems determined to make sure whatever steps the powers that be in Europe take, the steps will be too small to be effective, too late to be effective, and too begrudging to be effective. She's exhibit one in how to tank the world economy by being pig headed.

Merkel is part of what is called "the Black Party" in Gerrmany (CDU/CSU). In the old days (80's) they were a distinct minority and (then majority) social democrats (SPD) liked to characterize them as 'the nazis'. IOW, Germany has been in the hands of the political far right for years now. So Germany behaving like they are ('deutschland uber alles' assholes) should be no surprise...but it should be a concern.

A bit apocalyptic, but plausible. The really ironic thing about this scenario is that if we end up in a shooting war with China because Romney gets elected and can't manage to ditch the teabagger dumbassery, he will benefit from being a 'war president' just like the previous idiot did. Without having buggered things up by invading Iraq for no particularly good reason, I seriously doubt George W. would have been reelected.

The Greek tragi-comedy rolls along unabated. The "centerist" party won, kinda. Not with a majority of votes but they got a plurality out of several parties. Now let's see what happens. I'm not entirely sure they will be able to form a government and do much of anything. Hilarity ensues.
