I'm not worried about that at all. The only question is what will be given away to pass it. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm saying that there are three more of these "60 votes or bust" dramas remaining to get through. "Are" rather than "may" *if* the repubs bother to filibuster every chance they get that is...(any bets they won't?) So this thing never sees a floor vote. The blue dogs will see to that. Not in it's current form. As I said awhile back, the legislative process eviscerates and moderates as it progresses; it does not radicalize or enlarge (from our POV--from the corp POV things progress merrily along just as they should!) ;D

Senate bill Public Option:
"The CBO did find that people enrolling in the public option "would typically have premiums that were somewhat higher than the average premiums for the private plans'' people could buy through the new exchanges."--McClatchy Newspapers
Huh...maybe Lieberman is right..."I don't want to fix our healthcare system in a way that creates more of an economic crisis,'' he said, predicting that a public plan would drive up coverage costs, not lower them."
Of course this is not how the "public option" began. No, it *began* as a broad coverage gov't plan with disbursements tied to medicare rates rather than what it evolved into--a bit player in the same market driven rate paying casino we have now.

Well, I've said it before, but the best thing that could happen to this abortion is for it to die in the Senate.

I'm not worried about that at all. The only question is what will be given away to pass it. Agree. There's no way a significant health care bill can't pass. It's too hot for the Dems and the GOP both. And since the Dems have the majority....guess what's going to happen. What Kit and other just don't seem to understand is that people, including the Congress don't like radical change. So what we'll get is something which is significant but which will, over time, need to be amended to be more inclusive and probably more expensive. The important thing is to get something passed on which to build.

So what we'll get is something which is significant but which will, over time, need to be amended to be more inclusive and probably more expensive. The important thing is to get something passed on which to build. Unfortunately I don't see anything radical, or anything significant at this point. From here on it only gets more watered down. Maybe significant, forcing coverage of preexisting, but at what cost? Major giveaway to insurance companies, no cost containment, cost of coverage for new public option more than private companies? I'm sorry much as I wanted to believe it is becoming really difficult. Some may say something, even bad, is better than nothing. I don't think I agree. I would like to see the dems and the pres put out something decent, ie. good public option, real cost containment and make the blue dogs and pubs vote it down. That gives a chance to take it to the people and continue, watered down everyone declares victory and not much happens. I would love to blame the Republicans for this mess, but I can't. If you are going to loose, and to my mind this current bill is a loss, why not loose with something that counts and something that can actually be fought for. --chris edited for really bad spelling ;D

The important thing is to get something passed on which to build. Exactly. Nothing this big happens overnight. The first Civil Rights Act passed in 1866, the most recent one in 1991.
