This is why mammals are a failing species. You don't see reptiles herding around. Except for birds, and you know what happened to their nonavialan brethren... A really big unguided rock from outer space giving the Earth massive global cooling, thus destroying most of the biosphere, resulting in the massive death of large, cold-blooded creatures? Did you just try to imply that non-avian Dinosaurs were cold-blooded?

I think you've offered a kinder definition. I like it.

I think you've offered a kinder definition. I like it. I've had enough time now to observe at least a small portion of Americans, and stupidity, as I put it, is obvious. It still amazes me when I encounter people, who can be very nice and good-natured, just walk away from knowledge because it interferes with their preconceived notions. Notions, I have found, that are passed down from their parents. People can't help how they are born, natural variations will produce some that can't learn much, and some that can learn a lot, and most are in the middle. I don't like hanging tags on people who can't help how they are (and truly, this is a small part of the population). Those that do have the capacity to alter how they act, on the other hand...

Ya know, most of the people in those Palin booksigning vids are of average intelligence. There are about 225million Americans 18 and over (of voting age IOW). Basically, half that population lies between 90 and 110 IQ (about 110million potential voters). An additional 30% lies between 90 and 75 (about 66 million more potential voters).
Truly this is NOT a "small part of the population"... Considering that a)critical thinking and the relative efficacy of propaganda closely tracks IQ; and that b)propaganda has undergone (and is continuing to undergo) a massive renaissance during the last 30-40 years, almost exclusively in the far rightist side of the spectrum-- it is difficult indeed to be optimistic re; an imminent improvement in today's state of national political reasoning--rather, just the opposite is indicated...

Assuming you are discussing what I typed - my comment regarding a 'small part of the population' was directed at those who cannot help the way they are, such as through biological mental deficiencies. The people you describe certainly can help themselves, they make choices to disregard knowledge and live more based on faith. Should they so choose, they could reverse their thought patterns to accept rationality.
