I don't think she's gearing up for a 2012 Presidential run. I think she's gearing up for a 2010 primary Senate challenge against Lisa Murkowski, another moderate republican.
Thoughts?

I don't think she could get elected in Alaska after resigning her last job.

Alaska's republicans are the same group of people that re-elected Ted Stevens. He garnered 45% of the vote in the general.
Never underestimating the stupidity of the masses is particularly true in Alaska.

She and Murkowski definitely have a lot of bad blood between them, but like Jim said I can't see her running for office again in Alaska. How the hell do you quit the governorship after 3/8ths of your first term, then come back a year later to run for a higher office? And really - can you see Palin running for any office where she would have to be in debates and give unscripted interviews just to get the Republican nomination? She might put up with that (albeit, with a lot of whining) in a general election, but it's too much work and she's too vulnerable to losing if she exposes herself to that in a primary. Nate Silver has a list of ten reasons Palin could win the Republican nomination up on his site. I think a lot of his reasons are a big reach, but he does think she will run for the Republican nomination in 2012. I can't see it. I think what she's doing and saying is pointing towards a Perot-esque run as an independent in 2012. That way she doesn't have to deal with Iowa and New Hampshire, can spend the entire summer raising money and building her organization without being challenged by opponents or the press, and can set her up for another shot at martyrdom (and a second, bigger book deal) after the general election. I think that is her game.

Lisa Murkowski's is at least as popular as Palin, and Murkowski would have the entire state party organization behind her.

Never underestimate the voter's disdain for a quitter either.

To get the GOP nomination, absolutely. You need to remember who the remaining GOP primary voters are. They're the extreme right wing nut cases that we all know and love so well. They're the same people that think Palin is exactly what the country needs more of, not less of. She doesn't have to come to a primary debate with any intellectual rigor or preparation at all. She would need to come armed with God, Gays, Guns, and Obama is a seekrit Mooslim, and she'd get the nomination in a heartbeat. The GOP is trying to purge itself of any sense of moderates, and Alaska is an extreme case of that.

Shit, at this point she is going to promote herself as much as she can and then take the money she can get. Seriously, if she can find people to donate to her campaign she will use their money to "explore her options" for as long as they continue to give it.
I think she will become Ralph Nader-esque over the next few years. She will always be on the edge of the public consciousness, always saying wacko things to get attention, possibly even stepping up as a spoiler from time to time if more moderate Republicans refuse to honor her extreme right wing views.
I think over the long run she will harm the Republicans in the same way that Nader did the Dems, too. She's too fringe for the majority but she can fracture the party in a way that will make them pay attention so, in some sense, she will maintain her sway over the party even if she fails to maintain her credibility.
For the rest of us however, and this is the most important thing we normal people have to worry about, as as she ages even her MILF factor is going to wane...

I would be inclined to agree with you, but the name Marion Barry keeps ringing in my head. Anything is possible. I also saw a story where she wanted to run with Glenn Beck for President. I would welcome that, unless they actually got elected. Maybe if Palin wears a kufi it will help her chances? To add to the MILF comment, do people really entertain the idea that it would be cool to jerk off to thoughts of a President?

She still gives me a boner.
And if my dick could vote, she would win. With my boner.

She's gearing up to cash in quick, while she can. Yup. That's it. The truth of the matter is that she has no interest in politics. She's not shown even a glimmer of understanding of the great issues facing the country. She simply cannot campaign on her looks and a few well-written quips for the press. Oh. And incessant winking. Palin is NOT a politician. She's a celebrity. She's eye candy. She gets face time simply for her looks, which are admittedly very good. But a politician she ain't and never will be. I predict her star power will contract as soon as the GOP finds someone to run who at least can talk about what newspapers he reads. And she's no dummy. She's cashing in while she can. (If nothing else, we learned she's a clothes horse during the campaign.) EDIT: I usually watch Matthews and Olberman on MSNBC every day. Sometimes Maddow. The time they're giving Palin absolutely amazes me. Here we are fighting over health care, two wars, the economy, etc., etc., and what does Andrea Mitchell cover in the morning news? Fucking Sarah Palin's book signing in Grand Rapids. They showed lines of what looks like extras in the Star Wars bar scene lining up - camping - waiting to have her sign their copies of her book. Andrea Mitchell - Greenspan's wife, no less - covering a Sarah Palin book signing. Give me a break!

And as for me, there isn't enough time in a full day for me to work up an ejaculation from a Palin fantasy. Barack's pretty hot though.

You keep talking about that like it's not exactly what the GOP base is looking for. They don't want a politician. They don't want an informed policy wonk. They don't want a seasoned negotiator. They want a dumb redneck that can "get 'er done" and holds intellectual and nuanced positioning in contempt, just like them. Read a newspaper? Why would they read a newspaper? Everyone knows the news is full of liberal lies. And they've got one in Sarah.
